Before you review your perfume - Fragrants

Before you review your perfume

Hi champ!

Before leaving a review of your perfume, we have a few tips on how we recommend applying your fragrance, how to make it last longer, and what you can realistically expect from it.

Inspiring perfumes

To keep it short: in most cases, what you receive is a fragrance that reflects the final scent. However, some inspiring perfumes might not have gone through enough aging before being sold. This means the scent may not be fully developed upon arrival and could take days, weeks, or even months to mature into its final, complex form.

Here’s the deeper explanation:

When purchasing fragrances from brands we categorize as inspiring – such as Armaf, Lattafa, Afnan, Al Haramain, Rasasi, and similar – you’re getting outstanding value for money. Still, it’s important to match your expectations with the price and initial impression.

A key part of perfume production is the aging process, where ingredients are given time to interact, deepen, and settle. This creates the final, intended scent with more richness and projection. If demand rises too quickly, some producers might compromise on aging – as seen with Rasasi Hawas in 2022–2023 – resulting in a perfume that needs time before reaching its true potential.

Nose blindness

If your scent seems to disappear after 5–10 minutes, you may be experiencing nose blindness. This is perfectly natural and happens when your nose adapts to the fragrance and filters it out – the same way you'd stop noticing the smell of paint or glue after a while.

To reduce nose blindness, avoid spraying on your chest or neck, since those areas rise directly into your nose all day.

Our tip: ask people around you if they can still smell your fragrance – you might be surprised.

Where to spray

Here’s how we recommend applying your fragrance:

  1. Don’t rub it after spraying – it can reduce performance.

  2. Avoid spraying into the air and walking through the mist – it’s a waste.

  3. Apply to pulse points like behind the ears, where body heat helps diffuse the scent.

  4. Spray on clothing to extend longevity – fabric holds scent longer than skin, but avoid spraying too close to prevent staining.

  5. Avoid odd spots like elbows, hips, or behind the knees – unless your partner has a foot fetish, those areas rarely get noticed.

  6. If a spray spot (e.g. behind the ears) becomes irritated, switch to nearby skin or clothing instead.

  7. We don’t recommend spraying on chest or neck – it can irritate the skin and lead to nose blindness.

Recommended daily spray routine:

1x spray behind each ear, 1x on the back of your head, and 1x on each shoulder (5 sprays total). You can add 1x spray on each wrist if your fragrance isn’t projecting enough or you prefer those spots.

Seasons and your skin

Seasons have a big impact on how long a perfume lasts and how much it projects. On hot summer days, sweat can make the scent fade faster. On cold winter days, you might barely smell it. That’s why we categorize our entire catalogue by season – to help you choose the right scent for the right time.
